Cody with Abby

Abby's mom was rescued (pregnant) from the pound by young folks (I'm assuming) The mom cat nursed all the kittens except Abby. So the owners had to feed her by hand some milk they got at the drug store. Well my daughter’s friend (Lisa) wanted one of the kittens and selected Abby (a Tourtie). Lisa wanted a female kitten because she said the males Spray - OK, not being a prior cat owner I have no clue (personally I would have preferred a male).

Anyway Lisa lived with Boyfriend and they had a Pit bull too. Also Lisa and B-friends relationship was abusive (she eventually ended up in hospital...that kind of BAD abuse) and were into drugs...Crack/Oxycontton (A/K/A OC's). Abby spent about a week in this environment before Lisa and Abby came to stay with me. I offered my home to Lisa to help her out (I have an extra bedroom).

At first when I found out she has a kitten I said NO..take it to the pound...as my son Johnny is so allergic. But it being the coldest night like in 30 years I said OK it can stay the night. I got home and found the kitten in my younger son Cody's room. When I opened the door first thing Cody said was "Johnny said we could keep it and you always wanted a cat, so I gave Johnny all my money ($13.00) and he said we can keep her".

OK...I gave in then and there and said OK Cody we can keep Lisa's kitten. Then he begged if she could stay in his room (which BTW folks is HUGE..like 20' by 16') I said fine...as Lisa seemed to have lost interest in the kitten anyway. So I went to go pat the "dear"...Yeah right..she growled, she hissed, she bite me and scratched the dickens out of me...then she went and sat next to Cody...who I noted had tons of scratches on him too. He said he got them playing with the kitten. I told him not to be too rough with her...then as she growled I decided not to worry about HIM being to rough...think Cody had more to worry about than she did.

Anyway I discussed the fact that I was gonna take the kitten to the vet with Lisa (she was fine with it) told her we needed to get her shots and have her spayed. Lisa said fine, but she had no $$. I said don't worry I got it covered.

Next day Cody named her Abby. I went to Wal-Mart...got her toys, litter box (Lisa had her in a show box), litter and food.

Within days Lisa decided she had to go back with B-Friend. She left me a note and Abby, as she said it would have a better life with me.

I took Abby to the Vet 2 weeks later. The vet estimated Abby's age at 8 weeks old. So we decided to give Abby and Cody the same B-day...12/23.

Well, next month will be 1 year since we had Abby. She is an indoor cat that want's out in the worst way (I'm hoping this passes as it is always a challenge getting out the door). She is spayed, has all her shots, de-clawed and is microchipped. She has come around kind...she may rub against my leg and let me pet her, she even cuddled with me ONCE but on her terms only!!!

She does still attack. bit me this morning in fact. Her primary domain remains in Cody's room, she is HIS cat. Her litter box and food are in there. She foes to bed with him...how he can sleep with her running around I do not know, but he says he can't sleep without it now!!

I think he is of the appropriate age for a cat (8) and feel it is teaching him responsibility. He feeds her, he MUST come to the vet with her when we go, he is responsible for her NOT getting out and recently I have also put him in charge of the litter box.

Abby sleeps on Cody's pillow with him. She is his cat as much as He is her boy.

The boy and his cat, or is it the cat and her boy

Abby is the very first Feature Creature at STL! (see home page)

Please congratulate Vinni here.

This will be a regular, not occasional feature.

Members get priority, but non-members with good stories and pictures are candidates, too.

Abbycouch.JPG:
File Too Large. Limits are 640 x 280. Your file is 1275 x 1650.

I will try to re-size, but those limits seem real small

I need to beef up my picture posting tutorial. While it might be a pain - the rewards are also great!

Here is the picture - Vinni

Explaination: This is the picture you e-mailed me. When I put it in the image editor Adobe Photoshop - it looked like an 11x8.5" sheet of paper with a 5x7" on the top of the paper. In other words - the white area was four times the size of the real picture. Obviously, this picture had the white cropped out. It's about 90% of the original size.

While I'm allowing pictures up to 800 pixels wide, 600 would be better. Reason is reading gets a lot harder on threads with wide pictures. Members have to scroll left-and-right - not good.

Vinni, you may have figured out that the Creature Feature picture is the above picture with just Abby croped out.

What I'm going to do is put out some posts on how to get picture sizes reasonable, etc.

If the picture was with a digital camera, the easiest way to avoid reducing a huge picture is to change the settings for the smallest possible picture.

Yes Spence I figured that out re: the white area...how can I stop that. I don't have a digital, with the scanner I see no need. But how can I size the Pic's to exclude the white part???
