This is the story of a purebred tuxedo Persian. Originally named Pepe la Purr, he was born April 3, 1989 in Arlington, Texas. He went through three homes in his first ten years of life.



He was given away by someone in a trailer park near a major highway. I should have known he had a behaviorial problem since the cat being kept was a plain grey tabby. Note his left ear is bent. When a cat's ear get dirty, it can sometimes promote a blood vessel to burst. There was no reconstructive surgery. I suspect he was neglected for much of his life.

I took Mr. Socks into my home, but he was always at odds with Mr. Spencer and Ms Vicky. There were times that Spencer would come to Vicky's defense like she was his. Had a video of Mr Socks chasing Spencer, even though he is lighter and older. Over 2.5 years, there was a lot of fighting and terratorial spraying. A solution was found....

It turned out someone at a retirement home just lost her 24-year old brown-and-white Maine Coon. As much as Carol missed Burt, she became fast friends with Mr. Socks. I can up with that name because he acted as if he was "First Cat" - i.e. Socks Clinton. For three years, he was pampered and was never a problem. Carol and Mr. Socks were very close.

Sadly, her primary doctor missed diagonosing her for cancer, so by the time the second doctor caught it, she had to have extensive chemo and radiation treatment. She survived, but a year later it returned and took her life about a year ago. While I have not heard, I feel very sure her son is taking care of Mr. Socks as she loved him very much.

Cats can bring such comfort to seniors ... it is nice to know that Mr Socks did just that for Carol. Sadly Mr Socks must be missing Carol now

I am sure Carol and Burt are now happily taking care of each other. Still makes me sad, tho. Glad to hear how lucky Mr. Socks is.
